The difference between Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy and Stage hypnosis

Hypnotherapy Lund Malmö Sweden

Using different methods to do massive changes in behaviour and emotions has made a huge difference in many lives.  Learn the difference between Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy - Two Interconnected Concepts

Hypnosis is a natural state of altered consciousness in which a person enters a deeply relaxed, trance-like condition and becomes more receptive to suggestions. In fact, most people drift into light hypnotic states naturally every day – for example, when daydreaming, deeply focusing, or becoming absorbed in a book or film.

Stage hypnotism is very different from hypnotherapy. It is a form of entertainment where volunteers are guided into hypnosis for humorous or dramatic demonstrations in front of an audience. Unlike hypnotherapy, it does not aim to create personal change, reduce stress, or improve well-being — its purpose is performance and amusement. Read more here

Hypnotherapy, on the other hand, is a therapeutic method that uses hypnosis as a tool to support positive change. A trained hypnotherapist guides the client into hypnosis and then works with suggestions, metaphors, or other techniques to help transform behaviors, attitudes, or emotional states.

Hypnotherapy has been shown to be a very effective approach for:

- Reducing stress and promoting relaxation

- Increasing motivation and focus

- Overcoming fears and phobias

- Improving sleep quality

- Enhancing self-esteem and confidence

- Supporting lifestyle changes, such as healthier habits

In short, hypnosis is the state of focused relaxation, while hypnotherapy is the professional therapeutic use of that state to help clients achieve meaningful, lasting improvements in their lives.

Please note:

I do not diagnose, treat, or cure diseases. I do not work with cancer (not in Sweden, and only as a support for emotions/nausea in Australia), mental illness, or severe depression. In such cases, clients are referred to appropriate medical or healthcare professionals.

What I can offer is supportive work focused on change and self-regulation such as working with triggers, behaviours, emotional responses, and learned reactions. This may have a positive influence on overall wellbeing or help relate differently to physical sensations (for example pollen responses, stress reactions, habits, emotions, or pain).
Many people find this makes daily life feel easier, more comfortable and more manageable. You can read reflections from clients about their personal experiences here.

Online sessions are available for clients in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, England, Australia, Europe, Asia and Canada.
