A science-informed hypnotherapy approach for long-lasting symptom reduction
Hay fever, also known as pollen allergy or allergic rhinitis, is a common condition that affects many people during pollen season. Symptoms such as sneezing, nasal congestion, itchy eyes, fatigue and disturbed sleep can significantly impact daily life.
Hypnotherapy is used by some people as a complementary approach to help calm the body’s response to pollen exposure by working with subconscious response patterns and nervous-system regulation.
This page focuses on hypnotherapy for hay fever and pollen allergy, explaining how a mind–body approach has helped reduce the intensity of allergic responses by calming the nervous system and supporting immune regulation.
If you have tried antihistamines, nasal sprays or avoidance strategies with limited or short-term benefit, you may be looking for a complementary way to help your body respond more calmly to pollen exposure.
You’ll discover our structured approach to hypnotherapy, which combines deep relaxation techniques with personalized suggestions and a few more very effective tricks we have up our sleeve.
During your sessions, we help your subconscious mind gradually adjust its response to allergens. Rather than overreacting to pollen, your body learns to experience it more neutrally, minimizing the severity of each episode.
What is hay fever & pollen allergy?
Hay fever is an immune system response to airborne substances such as tree, grass or weed pollen. In people with pollen allergy, the immune system mistakenly identifies pollen as a threat and releases inflammatory chemicals, including histamine.
This immune activation is closely connected to the autonomic nervous system, which regulates stress responses and inflammation. When this system remains overactive, allergic symptoms can become more intense or persistent.
Common symptoms include:
Symptoms usually follow seasonal patterns. Pollen seasons differ between the UK and Australia due to climate and vegetation, which explains why reactions vary depending on location and time of year.
-
sneezing and a runny or blocked nose
-
itchy, watery or irritated eyes
-
sinus pressure or headaches
-
coughing or throat irritation
-
fatigue, poor sleep and reduced mental clarity
Hay fever (allergic rhinitis) is widely described in mainstream medicine as an allergic reaction to airborne allergens such as pollen. NHS allergic rhinitis overview: Read more here

Why symptoms can persist despite medical treatment
Standard medical treatments such as antihistamines and corticosteroid nasal sprays can reduce symptoms, but they generally do not retrain the underlying immune response.
For many people:
-
the allergic reaction has become automatic
-
symptoms occur before conscious control is possible
-
anticipation and stress amplify the response
-
the nervous system remains in a heightened state of alert
Research shows that stress–immune interactions play an important role in allergic conditions. When the nervous system stays overactivated, inflammatory signalling can increase - even in the absence of significant pollen exposure.
This is where a mind–body approach offers additional support.
How hypnotherapy can help with hay fever and pollen allergy
Hypnotherapy does not suppress the immune system and does not replace medical treatment. Instead, it works by helping regulate how the brain, nervous system and immune system communicate.
Clinical research and experience indicate that hypnosis can influence:
-
autonomic nervous system regulation
-
inflammatory and histamine-related signalling
-
perception and intensity of physical symptoms
-
stress-related immune activation
In practical terms, when the nervous system becomes calmer and more regulated, the immune response usually also decrease in intensity.
People report:
-
fewer sneezing episodes
-
significantly reduced nasal congestion
-
less itching or irritation (or none)
-
improved sleep and energy
-
greater tolerance during pollen seasons
To date, clients I have worked with commonly report that pollen exposure no longer triggers noticeable hay fever symptoms after a small number of sessions. Individual responses may vary.
Hypnotherapy is often described as working on the gut–brain–immune axis, supporting long-term regulation rather than short-term symptom suppression.
A personalised and evidence-informed approach
At CE-Hypnosis, work with pollen allergy is always personalised. Immune responses develop differently in each individual and are often influenced by earlier experiences, stress patterns and learned associations.
Sessions typically focus on:
-
how symptoms present in daily life
-
when the allergic response first developed
-
subconscious triggers and expectations
-
calming nervous system reactivity
-
reinforcing a neutral or calmer response to pollen exposure
Some people notice improvement after only one session, while others benefit from a small number of sessions. Outcomes depend on symptom history, sensitivity and individual responsiveness.
Safety and medical considerations
Hypnotherapy is:
-
non-invasive
-
drug-free
-
generally experienced as deeply relaxing
For people with severe allergies or a risk of anaphylaxis, hypnotherapy is used only as a complementary approach alongside appropriate medical care. It is never a substitute for emergency treatment, prescribed medication or allergy management plans.
Any changes to medication should always be discussed with a qualified healthcare professional.
You may however notice that the severity has lessened and of course, always bring your medication with you.
A calmer pollen season is possible
If hay fever or pollen allergy affects your quality of life, there may be ways to help your body respond differently - safely, naturally and without side effects.
Hypnotherapy offers a structured, science-informed mind–body approach focused on long-term regulation rather than temporary symptom suppression.
Our clients frequently report feeling pretty much symptom free (1 sneeze a day/week at worst) during high-pollen months, thanks to changed immune response.
Unlike many common antihistamines and prescription drugs, hypnotherapy does not cause grogginess, dry mouth, or other unwanted side-effects. Instead, it shifts your mindset to one of balance and calm or even enjoyment.
By our developed protocol (CE-therapy method) especially for pollen allergy, and other allergies) we allow your body’s natural healing mechanisms to operate more efficiently, resulting in fewer and minimized allergic responses.
From the initial consultation, CE-Hypnosis guides you through each step with empathy and care. We understand that everyone’s experience of pollen allergies differs even though much is in common, so every plan is tailored to address unique triggers. Our blog and testimonial pages feature first-hand stories of individuals who have regained their passion for outdoor activities through our targeted hypnotherapy sessions.
If you’re ready to embrace the joy of spring without constant sneezing or sore eyes, CE-Hypnosis can help you create a more harmonious response to pollen.
You are welcome to book a session to explore whether this approach may be suitable for you.

Asthma minimised
I met Camilla to minimise my asthma. It was really hard exercising and running. Especially when it was getting colder outside. I had to use my nebulasor and it´s hard when you are trying to get fresh air and have to stop and use it.
I can only say that 3 sessions later I am out running and enjoying the outdoor. This has an enormous impact in my life, and honestly my future.
It is quite surprising and yet it just works.
I recommend Camilla very much.

Pollen allergy gone with the wind!
I just want to share my experience and express how incredibly grateful I am for choosing to try hypnotherapy with Camilla!
After suffering from pollen allergies for several years and trying a variety of treatments, including nasal spray, pills, cortisone, and allergy shots, I have finally found something that works.
As someone who works outdoors during the high pollen season, it has always been a huge challenge to manage my allergy symptoms. But thanks to Camilla and her method, I am now entering my third season completely free from pollen allergies. It's absolutely amazing!
Camilla is not only skilled in what she does, but also an incredibly warm and caring person. She took the time to understand my situation and tailored the treatment to my individual needs. I always felt well taken care of and secure during our sessions.
Her method has truly changed my life, and I cannot express how grateful I am for Camilla's help. If you suffer from pollen allergies and have tried everything else without finding something that works, I highly recommend trying Camilla's assistance. It can make a tremendous difference in your life, just as it did for me.
A thousand thanks, Camilla, for everything you have done!

Pollenallergy totally gone
After many years of recurring pollen allergy symptoms, I decided to try hypnotherapy.
My symptoms were mainly in my eyes, and for several months every spring, I woke up with swollen, itchy, and runny eyes.
After visiting the amazing Camilla, my pollen problems are now a thing of the past.
It has been two seasons since I received help with my symptoms, and not once have I had any trouble with my eyes.
I recommend Camilla to everyone I know who needs help getting rid of their allergy.
Thank you Camilla for helping me!

Hayfever, Grassallergy & Pollenallergy all gone
I have had big issues with grass allergy which has given me many sleepless nights, and I had really difficulties in breathing when it was warm outside and grass nearby.
But now, after I have been to Camilla, it is just gone!
Incredible, I didn't know if I could believe it, but after seeing and feeling the results for myself I know it works and I can recommend anyone who is hesitant to go.
Thank you for everything :-)

FAQ - Frequently asked QuestionsAbout Hay fever and Pollen allergy
1. How can hypnotherapy influence pollen allergy and hay fever symptoms?
From a mind–body perspective, pollen allergy is understood as a learned subconscious response, where the nervous system and immune system react to pollen as if it were a threat. Hypnotherapy works by helping the subconscious mind reinterpret this signal, allowing the body to respond more neutrally. When this misinterpretation is corrected, allergic symptoms often reduce significantly.
2. What results do people typically experience with hypnotherapy for pollen allergy?
In my professional experience to date, all clients I have worked with report that pollen exposure no longer triggers noticeable hay fever symptoms, even during high-pollen periods. While individual responses vary and no outcome can be guaranteed, results have consistently been positive when the underlying response pattern is addressed.
3. Why does addressing the subconscious response matter for allergies?
The immune response is closely linked to the subconscious and autonomic nervous system. Once an allergic reaction has been learned, it can be triggered automatically without conscious control. Hypnotherapy focuses on updating this learned response, helping the body distinguish between genuine threats and harmless stimuli such as pollen.
4. Does hypnotherapy aim to suppress the immune system?
No. Hypnotherapy does not suppress immune function. The intention is to normalise the response, so the immune system reacts appropriately rather than excessively. This distinction is important, as the goal is regulation rather than suppression.
5. Can everyone expect the same level of improvement?
Most people notice clear improvement, but the degree and speed of change can differ. Factors such as how long the allergy has been present, stress levels, and individual nervous system sensitivity can influence results. Hypnotherapy is therefore approached as a personalised process rather than a one-size-fits-all solution. Some people notice change quickly, while others benefit from a small series of sessions. The number varies depending on individual factors.

Research and studies on pollen allergy using hypnosis
Research and experiential evidence on hypnosis and hay fever
Research and long-standing practice-based experience suggest that hypnosis may support reduced hay fever symptom intensity and improved tolerance during pollen season for some individuals. While research is still developing, consistent real-world outcomes have been reported across many years of professional hypnosis practice.
Hypnosis has been explored for several decades as a mind–body approach in conditions involving allergic and immune responses, including seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever). While large-scale clinical trials are still relatively limited, available research together with extensive practice-based experience suggests that hypnosis may support reduced symptom intensity and improved tolerance during pollen season for some individuals.
The studies below represent different types of scientific inquiry, including controlled trials, reviews, and broader summaries. Together with long-standing practice-based experience, they contribute to the current understanding of hypnosis as a supportive mind–body approach.
One of the better-known controlled studies was published in Clinical & Experimental Allergy, where adults with grass- or birch-pollen–induced hay fever learned self-hypnosis and were followed across two consecutive pollen seasons. Participants who practised self-hypnosis reported significant improvements in hay fever symptoms and overall well-being compared with control groups.

Earlier scientific reviews examining hypnosis and allergic responses have discussed how hypnotic states may influence physiological reactions to allergens, including changes in neurovascular activity and symptom expression in respiratory and skin-related allergies.

More recent scientific summaries reviewing non-pharmacological approaches for allergic rhinitis also include self-hypnosis among methods associated with reduced symptom burden and, in some cases, reduced reliance on allergy medication.

In addition to peer-reviewed research, hypnosis has a long tradition of practice-based knowledge, where consistent patterns are observed over time through real-world application. Across many years of professional hypnosis practice, practitioners working with subconscious response patterns and nervous-system regulation have repeatedly reported client-experienced improvements in tolerance, symptom perception, and quality of life during pollen season.
This experiential evidence aligns with current scientific understanding of the interaction between the nervous system, stress regulation, conditioned responses, and immune reactivity. Allergic symptoms are known to be influenced not only by allergens themselves, but also by how the nervous system interprets and responds to those triggers.
Hypnotherapy, as offered here, is therefore best understood as a complementary and supportive approach. It does not replace medical diagnosis, treatment, or medication, but seem to offer meaningful support for people seeking a non-invasive, mind–body way to work with hay fever and pollen-related symptoms.
Conclusion:
The combination of emerging research and long-standing practice-based experience suggests that hypnosis may play a valuable supportive role for some individuals with hay fever, particularly when conventional approaches have not provided sufficient relief.
